Grounds work on a site that does not stop

The hard part of commercial grounds maintenance is rarely the horticulture. Mowing an industrial verge is not technically harder than mowing a suburban lawn. What makes it different is that the site keeps operating while you work: trucks are reversing, forklifts are moving material, customers are parking and staff are walking between buildings.

That changes how the work has to be planned. It means asking about your traffic patterns and operating hours before quoting rather than after, being willing to work weekends or outside hours where the site needs it, and splitting a large job across several visits so we are not taking your car park out of action for a full day.

Vegetation is a safety issue, not just presentation

When growth blocks the view between a reversing truck and someone walking to the site office, that is a hazard on your site. The same goes for gate approaches, growth encroaching on footpaths and verges, and growth over security fencing. We treat sightline and access clearance as part of the job, not an extra.

Green waste leaves with us

Most industrial yards have nowhere to put green waste and no bin for it. Removal and disposal are included in our commercial quotes rather than added afterwards. A contractor who stacks the arisings behind your shed has not finished the job, they have moved it.

Where we work

We are based at Loganlea, which puts most of Logan's industrial land within a 20 minute drive. We regularly work across Crestmead, Slacks Creek, Berrinba, Beenleigh, Underwood, Meadowbrook, Loganholme, Kingston, Woodridge and out to the Yatala Enterprise Area.

Each precinct has its own character. Crestmead is large yards with heavy transport movement, Slacks Creek is tighter sites with more hedge and screening work, and Yatala is large-lot industrial where the work is closer to acreage slashing than suburban mowing. There is a full breakdown of the Logan industrial precincts in our guides.

What to ask any grounds contractor

If you are putting commercial grounds work out to quote, these are the questions that separate operators:

  1. What is your public liability cover? For industrial sites, $20 million is what most head contractors and landlords expect to see. Ask for the certificate of currency.
  2. Is green waste removal included? It is a real cost and the easiest thing for a cheap quote to leave out.
  3. Can you work outside operating hours? On an active yard this is often the only safe option.
  4. What happens in the wet season? Growth rates roughly double through summer and access to soft ground gets difficult. A schedule that ignores this fails every January.
  5. Will the same people come each time? If your site runs inductions, crew turnover is a cost to you, not to the contractor.
